Position Description:
Maas Energy Works (MEW) is seeking a highly motivated, entrepreneurial, and experienced lawyer to join our legal team as Regulatory & Government Affairs Attorney. This position will provide legal counsel and transactional advice to senior leaders in various departments throughout the organization, interact with legislators, and represent the organization to regulatory agencies to provide input in regulatory processes, public comments, and direct discussions. In some cases, interacting with elected officials, their staff, and legislative bodies regarding laws and policies pertaining to renewable energy, emissions trading and regulations, tax policy as it relates to renewable incentives. Accordingly, this role requires the ability to navigate complex organizations, understand regulatory issues, and manage competing goals under routinely tight deadlines.
Responsibilities:
Assist staff in interpretation and compliance with regulations relating the construction and operational of energy facilities including California Regional Water Quality Control Boards, California Air Quality Management Districts, and counties administering California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)—and similar efforts in other states with equivalent regulatory agencies.
Oversee creation and maintenance of contracts for the creation, transfer, and sale of renewable attributes such as carbon credits, Low Carbon Fuels Standard credits, Renewable Information Numbers, Renewable Energy Credits, and other such attributes under regulatory and voluntary systems.
Support negotiation, drafting, and reviewing of contracts
