Calgren Completes Renewable Natural Gas Facility in California

Calgren Dairy Fuels completed a dairy renewable natural gas facility in California – the first of its kind in the state.

The facility is located in Pixley, located in the Central Valley between Bakersfield and Fresno. It is the first such facility in California and is expected to be the largest dairy biogas operation in the United States. The fuel developed by the facility will be used by Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas), which serves 21.8 million customers across Central and Southern California. At this facility, Calgren collects cow manure – a source of greenhouse gas emissions — from four local dairy farms and processes it in an anaerobic digestor that accelerates the natural decomposition process. By the end of 2019, Calgren will partner with eight additional dairy farms to make it the largest dairy biogas project in the nation.
